Film Genres

 Prerequisite:  English 2665, 3701, or 3702

                Course packet of selected readings (at YSU Bookstore). 

Attendance is very important.  More than six unexcused absences will result in the reduction of your final grade by one letter.  Active participation in discussion is expected. 

Grades are based on the following scale: 20% midterm, 20% final exam, 30% research paper, and 30% class participation (including journals).  I reserve the right to refuse to accept late papers. 

In order to pass the course, all requirements, graded and ungraded, must be fulfilled.  Incompletes are given only if: 1- the student requests one, 2- the previous work has been satisfactory, and 3- the reasons given are justifiable and beyond the student's control.  

Goals and Objectives of the course:

1. To screen several classic genre films.

2. To read and discuss various articles on genre theories and conventions of several film genres.

3. To research, develop, and write a research paper on some aspect of film genre study.
