Topic Choose something related to one of the following: 
eating, drinking, exercising, sleeping, studying, dating

2-3 articles available in PDF form from Academic Search Premier. Taken together, the 2-3 articles should total at least six pages.

Directions

Compose an argument essay that presents and supports a proposal related to one of the topic areas listed above.  The essay should include each of the following: [items 1-3 come directly from page 198 of ea]

  1. a claim that proposes a practice or policy to address a problem or need and that is oriented toward action, directed at the future, and appropriate to your audience

  2. statements that clearly relate the claim to the problem or need

  3. evidence that the proposal will effectively address the need or solve the problem, and that it is feasible

  4. effective incorporation of your 2-3 required sources  

Rough draft requirements

  • at least 350-400 words

  • sources list (APA or MLA format)

  • use of  2 sources, with at least 2 quotations

  • a clearly stated proposal claim in the opening paragraph

Final draft requirements

  • 600-800 words 

  • MLA or APA format for opening page, header, in-text citation, and sources list

  • use of 2-3 sources, with at least 3 well-integrated quotations 

  • organization of the essay into paragraphs

  • careful editing and proofreading
