Williamson Center
of International Business
The Williamson Center of International
Business at Youngstown State University encourages the introduction of international
perspectives across the undergraduate and graduate curricula of YSU's
business program. Through a program of workshops and financial
support for internationally oriented faculty development projects, the
Center encourages Williamson College faculty both to internationalize
the content of existing courses wherever feasible and to develop new
internationally-oriented, cross-functional and cross-disciplinary
courses. The Center also maintains a library of current videos,
books and other teaching materials on international business topics
which are used by Williamson College faculty in teaching their classes.
Outreach Programs
The Williamson Center for International
Business collaborates with the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber and
other business organizations to offer a series of seminars and workshops
on export promotion and international business development. The
Center also conducts and publishes surveys of international business
activity by regional firms, including exports, imports, and
investments. The Center also collaborates with the Ohio Department of
Development's export promotion and development activities in northeast Ohio.
Exchange Programs
YSU students and faculty, along with area
business professionals, can take advantage of opportunities to learn
about business in other countries through summer programs on
international topics developed by Williamson College faculty with the
support of the Center. One-week or ten-day learning experiences in selected countries
are included as part of these courses.
International Seminars
The Center sponsors informational seminars for
Williamson College students and faculty, and for faculty members from other
academic fields who have an interest in international business and
economics. These seminars bring professional s
with international experience onto the YSU campus to share their experiences
and discuss the realities of doing business in the international arena.
Jorge Carillo, Director of Social Studies of the
Departement at El Cologion de la Frantera Norte in Tijuana, Mexico visited
YSU in May 2000 as part of the Williamson Breakfast Series. Mr.
Carillo presented his research on the dynamism and structure of foreign
firms in Northern Mexico and their impact on competitive issues, local
supplier relations, and their impact on the labor market.
