THE MBA PROGRAM: EXCELLING IN
GRADUATE BUSINESS EDUCATION SINCE 1971
Business education has a long tradition at Youngstown State
University, dating back to 1923. The former Business Department emerged
into a separate college in 1948 and has continued to provide leadership
for the regional business community. The college was named after local
business leader Warren P. Williamson, Jr. in 1981.
There was an increasing need for advanced study in business
education to meet the ever-changing demands of the work environment. To
meet that need, the MBA program was launched in 1971 and awarded its
first MBA degrees in 1973. Since that time, over 1600 students with
careers in business and industry as well as in government, nonprofit,
health, and educational institutions have received their MBA degree from
YSU. As the MBA program continued to grow and prosper, evidence of the
need for an additional graduate program for current business leaders led
to the implementation of the Executive MBA program in 1990.
The career success of our MBA alumni and their support and
endorsement of YSU's MBA program are the best measures of our success.
MBA alumni hold prominent leadership positions in local, national and
international corporations.
Emphasis on applied learning prepares MBA students to develop the
skills to stay competitive in the marketplace. They learn to apply
theory to realistic business situations through a number of teaching
methodologies that are creatively interwoven throughout the curriculum.
Faculty engage students in experiential activities through computer
simulations and team projects.

complete: Level I--foundation courses, Level II--advanced courses, and
Level III -- electives.
Level I courses are required of students who have not completed
