Dear Residents,

Welcome to Youngstown State University. I hope that you all had an exciting and relaxing summer. I hope you are looking forward to living on campus here at YSU. I have lived on campus for the past two years and it has been a blast! I am really excited to be your RA for the upcoming semester. I hope that living on campus will be nothing less than the time of your life. With so many things that are waiting to happen, I will like to take this time to talk about a few of my values and my characteristics to make them clear to you. The intentions of me doing this is that you can get a better understanding of the kind of person I am and a better understanding of what an RA is. So with that said, here are a few of my values and my characteristics that I will like to share to you.

There isn’t a single word that can describe me, so I have to use a few words to describe me (please bear with me here). I am a fun-going laid back dependable all around typical guy: plain and simple. I love to have fun and I love to laugh. I believe that laughter is the best medicine, so if you get sick, tell a joke and laugh! Even though I love to have fun, I do know when to be serious, but I am not the kind of guy that neither blows his top at someone nor am I the guy that yells and screams at people. If you have a problem or ever need something from me, do not be afraid to ask me. I will do my very best to be available to you whenever you need me. With these traits that describe me, I will now like to talk about my values.

I have many values that have guided me in my life, but I am going to share four that I believe will make our floor a comfortable place to live on. The most important value to me is respect: respect for the rules, respect for your dorm rooms, respect for the faculty staff, and most importantly, respect for you all! If we all can respect each other, then that will lead to my next value, which is responsibility. I have a responsibility of being your RA, and you have a responsibility of being a student and a resident. Being a responsible resident will lead to the next value, the value of harmony. I want our community to have fun and to get along, essentially living in harmony. Harmony then will lead to communication, being able to feel comfortable talking to each other. As you can see, these values build off of one another.

I hope that by presenting this letter to you, you will get an understanding of what kind of a person I am and what I want to see in our community. Yes, that is right; you will become a part of a community. So to end this letter, I will again like to welcome you to YSU and to our community. I cannot wait to meet you and I surely cannot wait to be your RA! We are going to have an awesome year together, I guarantee!

Sincerely,

Justin Seguin
