When can I move in for Fall 2007?

Freshmen in Lyden House and Kilcawley House will be able to move in on Friday, August 24 from 1pm-6pm. All other residents may move in on Saturday, August 26 and Sunday, August 27 between 10 and 4.

What should I bring with me?

Bedding / Linens:
sheets (extra long twin)

towels / washcloths

Toiletry Items:
soap / shampoo / toothpaste / deodorant, etc.
small bucket to carry toiletry items to bathroom

Do I need a parking pass?
All YSU parking lots require a parking permit, available through University Parking Services. Housing residents will receive a swipe card, which allows access to lots adjacent to the residence halls.

How are our phones set up?
Each room has phone service with unlimited local calling and each student has an individual voice mail box and an individualized long distance calling account. Contact Telephone Services at 941-6000 to activate your voice mail and long distance calling.

What are the meal plan options?

  • 19 Meals: Any 19 meals per week for the semester.
  • 14 Meals: Any 14 meals per week + $115 in bonus points per semester.
  • 10 Meals: Any 10 meals per week + $150 in bonus points per semester

Every Fall semester, the students that live on campus are all put on the 14 meal plan. If you would like to change your plan to 19 meals or 10 meals a week you simply stop by the Dining Service office the week of fall semester. For more details, visit the Dining Services website.

Can I have visitors?

Guest privileges are in effect during the following hours for FRESHMEN: Sunday through Thursday 10:00am until midnight. Friday and Saturday 24 hours. Freshmen wishing to have guests spend the night Sunday through Thursday need to fill out an Overnight Pass and get it approved by a Housing Coordinator. Guest privleges are in effect during the following hours for UPPERCLASSMEN: 24 hours. Residents must sign in guests, with a valid photo ID (college ID or driver's license), at the front desk of their residence hall. Guests under 18 years of age must receive special permission from parents and approval by the housing coordinator. Overnight guests are permitted to stay a maximum of three nights in any seven day period. Please refer to the Resident Handbook for further details.

What is an "RA?"

A Resident Assistant, more frequently called an RA, is a full-time student, and part-time employee of Housing & Residence Life. An RA lives on each floor, and is there to help residents become familiar with YSU, get to know each other, and ensure that members of the community respects each other and follow the policies of Housing & Residence Life. RAs plan floor activities, work at the front desk, and rotate in an on-call schedule to respond to any emergencies or disturbances in the residence hall. Don't hesitate to ask an RA any questions you may have about YSU or Housing!

How can I get involved?

There are lots of ways to meet people and get involved across campus and in the residence halls. This year, a new Residence Hall Association (RHA) is being started at YSU, providing residents with an opportunity to take the lead in planning events and building the community that they would like to live in. Keep an eye out for RHA meetings and events!

When will I find out who my roommate is?

Room assignments and roommate contact information will be mailed out to all residents by the date they turned in their Housing Contract.

How are roommates assigned?

Roommates are assigned based on preferences listed on the Personal Profile that is completed when a student applies to Housing & Residence Life. Staff members use the information provided to attempt to match up residents with similar interests, habits, and schedules. Be sure to fill out a Personal Profile and send it in to Housing & Residence Life for the best chance at a good match for you!

Can I pick my own roommate?

Yes! Both residents must indicate the other person in the appropriate section of the Housing Application.

What do I need for my computer to get online in my room?

Each room has a wall jack for each student to connect to the internet. These are high-speed connections via the University's fiber optic network. Your computer will need a standard 10/100 network card and a CAT-5 cable to hook up. Tech Desk, Download Advisory, and more information…

What are the requirements to live in Cafaro House?

In order to live in Cafaro House, you must be a part of at least one of the following programs: University Scholars, BS/MD program, University Honors Program, or be an International Student or Graduate Student.

Can I get an email account through the university?

All students are encouraged to set up an email account through the University CUE-mail system. Simply visit the help desk site for more details!

Do I have to bring all of my stuff home over break?

Though the residence halls close over winter and spring breaks, residents are permitted to keep their belongings in their room. However, it is important that residents take everything that they will need during the break with them, as access into the buildings will not be permitted.

What services are available in the residence halls?
Each of the residence halls provides a variety of amenities for residents:

  • Exercise equipment
  • Vending machines
  • Music practice rooms
  • Computer labs
  • Pool tables, foosball, and other games
  • TV
  • Kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, etc.
  • Microwaves throughout the buildings

What if I have problems with my roommate?

Resident Assistants live on each floor of each house to help out with roommate problems and other issues that arise during the year. If you are unsure about how to confront your roommate about any concerns you have, chat with your RA for some suggestions about how to handle the situation. RAs can help mediate a conflict, or can solicit the help of a Housing Coordinator to help smooth out the situation.

How much does it cost to do laundry?
Each house has laundry facilities available in its basement. Price per load is $0.75 to wash, $0.75 to dry.
