WOMEN’S HEALTH SERVICES

  • You should discuss with a doctor YOUR possible health risks with the use of prescription birth control.
  • To obtain prescription birth control, you must have a pap test.
  • The Student Health Clinic doctors conduct pap tests by appointment only. To schedule a pap test call the Clinic at 330.941.3489. We now have a family practice physican with a focus on women's health who does pap test once a month. He may also be able to assist you with other women's concerns you may have. Doctor visits at the Student Health Clinic are always confidential and free; however lab tests and medications have fees that you will be responsible for.
  • A pap test conducted at the Student Health Clinic is $52.50. If the pap test results are abnormal, additional testing may be performed, with an added cost of approximately $105. Clinlab will bill insurance or bill directly at your home address. The Student Health Clinic does not accept payments.
  • The doctor may also determine that cultures are necessary, which will result in additional lab fees of approximately $52, which will also appear on your Clinlab bill. The fees can be billed to your insurance, but are not always covered.
  • Your birth control prescription refills will likely cost $25-$35 a month. Again, your insurance may or may not cover some or all of the costs of the medication.
  • Be sure to call the custome service # on the back of your insurance card to determine covered expenses prior to your appointment.

OTHER CHOICES

Some students choose to use the services of Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood prorates the cost of the pap test according to your income. Planned Parenthood also provides monthly birth control medication at a lower cost, approximately $15 per month. For more information contact Planned Parenthood at 330.788.2487 ext 1 for the Health Center. http://www.plannedparenthood.org/

DID YOU KNOW?

It is possible to get pregnant even when using birth control! Pregnancy is possible with all methods of contraception. However, using it correctly and consistently every time will decrease the possibility of an unintended pregnancy.

Many birth control pills contain low doses of the hormones that help prevent pregnancy. Missing taking the birth control pill just one day or taking it just a few hours late can decrease the amount of medication in your body enough to make pregnancy possible. Similarly, not knowing the correct way to use a condom can make you just as vulnerable. Using two methods of birth control at once, such as the birth control pill plus a condom, dramatically lowers the risk of an unintended pregnancy.
