Take Advantage of other Educational Opportunities on or Near the YSU Campus

The McDonough Museum of Art, located within a half block of the Planetarium, features works from faculty and students as well as major exhibitions from around the world. Arrangements for tours can be made by calling (330) 941-1400. The museum opens daily at 11 a.m. but will consider earlier tours; closed Mondays. 
The Butler Institute of American Art, the nation's first museum dedicated solely to American art, is located on campus across Wick Avenue from the McDonough. Arrangements for school tours can be made by calling the Education Department at (330) 743-1711. The museum opens daily at 11 a.m.; closed Mondays. 
The Mahoning Valley Historical Society's Arms Museum, 648 Wick Ave., welcomes school groups to its museum, once the Arms family residence and now a repository of local history. The museum is located approximately three blocks from the Planetarium. Arrangements for tours can be made by calling (330) 743-2589. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays; closed Mondays. 

The Youngstown Historical Center of Industry & Labor, 151 W. Wood St., showcases the steel and iron industries and the social and cultural lives of their workers in displays, audio/visual presentations, and other works. The museum, located about four blocks from the Planetarium, is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but special arrangements for tours may be made on those days. Call (330) 743-5934. 
The Clarence R. Smith Mineral Museum, part of the Department of Geology at YSU. The musuem is located in the Rayen School of Engineering Building next door to Ward Beecher Hall. Public hours at noon to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Admission is free.

The Rose Melnick Medical Museum houses approximately 20,000 articles that chronicle the history and practice of medicine, dentistry, nursing, and pharmacy from the 1700s to the present. The museum is located on Wick Avenue just north of Bliss Hall near the freeway entrance. Hours are 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays; admission is free. 

Special docent guided tours or educational programs for school groups may be available. General adult group tours are self-guided only. Please call the Museum at (330) 941-4662 to schedule a group tour.
