The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is one of the oldest and most respected national academic honor societies. The mission of Phi Kappa Phi is "to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others." The Society believes that acknowledging and honoring those persons who have excelled in scholarship, in whatever field, will stimulate others to strive for excellence.

Phi Kappa Phi has more than 1,000,000 members worldwide and close to 300 chapters throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines.  Youngstown State University became affiliated with the Society in 1972 as the 143rd Chapter.
