ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
The University's commitment to the surrounding community includes the preservation of the environment and its valuable natural resources. EOHS, with the cooperation of many other campus departments, strives to assure that the University operates in a manner that is environmentally responsible. The department monitors discharges to the sewage system and air to assure that the University is in compliance with the Clean Water Act and the Clean Air Act. In addition, the department maintains a fully equipped emergency response vehicle. Departmental staff are trained in hazardous materials cleanup and respond to all accidents on campus involving chemical releases to the environment. The staff works very closely with the local fire department, the HazMat team, and the local Disaster Services Agency to develop contingency plans that will assure that all chemical spills are handled according to accepted practices and with a minimum risk to the population and the environment.
